The CCS XC Wrap and On to State XC Championship for... ...a real challenge as the team had been moved up from Div. III to Div. II. The divisions are based on school population and with the enrollment growth at Aragon the Dons became a D II team. This was by far the most competitive of the 5 divisions with 7 D II teams in the top 15 in all of CCS! The team knew it was a difficult challenge and they ran well. They were led by Soph. Emma Madgic and Senior Margot Bellon. Margot was running her last high school race on the grueling hilly 2.95 mile Crystal Springs course. Coming in next was Sophs Beata Gold and Sophie Louie followed by Jr. Miwa Ikeda. Then in came Soph. Kimberly Woo and Jr. Lydia Villa. When the points were tallied the team did not take the third and final spot for State. While disappointed the team finished a very respectable 6th overall in D II. When all 70 teams from the 5 division results were combined Aragon was top 15! ! Great effort by the ladies of Aragon. Emma became a State individual qualifier by virtue of her overall 5th place finish in a Personal Best (PR) time of 18:39. That time also placed her at 16 overall (2nd fastest sophomore in the race) of the combined 516 girls running the course on the day! Both her time and place were outstanding accomplishments by Emma. This makes her 2nd trip to the State meet.
For the first time in many Aragon XC seasons the Boys team missed the cut in the Peninsula Athletic League finals. This did not mean Aragon was shut out as both Senior Jason Leung and Soph. Noah Strause made it into CCS as individuals. Jason was running in what would be his last high school race on the Crystal Springs course. Noah was running his last as a Soph. and will be returning for several more opportunities on the course during his Jr. and Sr. years. Each ran well to finish up their XC year.
